OUR PASTOR

Reverend Dr. Reginald D. Tarver is the Organizer and Senior Pastor of the Revelation of Christ Baptist Church.  Prior to answering God's call to his pastoral assignment Rev. Tarver was a member at Isle of Patmos Baptist Church (IPBC) for over twenty years.  He started as an avid Sunday School student of the Men’s Class before being called to teach the Middle School Sunday School class with his wife, now First Lady Felicia Tarver.  Rev. Tarver had also served many years in the Deacon Ministry at IPBC before accepting his call into the preaching ministry.  He has had the honor and privilege of serving in the Deacon Ministry and as one of the Associate Ministers under the tutelage of Rev. Dr. Calvin L. Matthews, Senior Pastor, IPBC for over fifteen years.  He is a native Washingtonian and currently serves on the faculty and is assistant dean of student affairs at Wilber Henry Waters School of Religion and Theological Seminary (WHWSRTS) where he teaches Old and New Testament Survey.  He received the Bachelor of Divinity in 2011 and the Masters of Theology in 2013 (both from WHWSRTS).  Dr. Tarver received the Doctors of Philosophy in Theology Religious Studies from the New Hope and Life School of Religion Theology Seminary in June of 2017.  He also has an undergraduate degree in Computer Information Systems Science from the University of the District of Columbia.  Dr. Tarver believes “Being edified in the Word of God is vital to God’s mission.  When we are edified, God is glorified, and Satan is horrified, vilified, and nullified.”

Professionally, Dr. Tarver is the Director of Information Technology for Workgroup Consulting and was also the same for Stoddard Baptist organization for the majority of his six year tenure.  He conducts and oversee the Bible Study to both the permanent and day care residents faithfully every Wednesday at Stoddard Baptist Global care within the Washington Center for Aging Services .  He also has preached there monthly on occasion through the Senior Ministry at IPBC.  He has been married to Felicia Tarver for twenty-four years and together they have taught Middle School Sunday School class for the majority of their union.  They have also conducted several marriage fellowship and biblical finance classes at IPBC to help enlighten married couples of all ages about God’s blessings on the family structure and stewardship.  They constantly instill in their three sons—Osie, Reginald II, and Christian—Christian values so that Jesus will be prevalent in every endeavor in their lives not only prosperity but more importantly spiritually.  Two Scriptures near and dear to him are Romans 1:16 and Isaiah 40:28-31.  “Not being ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ” and to always “wait on the Lord”.

The Lord continued to expand Dr. Tarver’s territory through teaching, preaching, conducting weddings and homegoing services, Bible Study, Sunday School, Seminary Classes, and Sunday Services at the Washington Center for Aging Services (WCAS).  In July of 2010, the operations at WCAS was acquired by Stoddard Baptist.  Chapel services were conducted by Reverend Wade T. Powell for twelve years who retired from the ministry.  Although Rev. Powell church, Faith Baptist disbanded, Rev. Tarver continued to keep the Chapel services going.  Rev. Tarver was led by the Holy Spirit to establish a new church, the Revelation of Christ Baptist Church, aka, The ROC.  On November 14, 2014 the ROC was incorporated and has been growing and thriving in the Spirit ever since. Services are intergenerational with faithful residents and a diverse membership of mature and young adults, and also the very young.

Isaiah 40:28-31King James Version (KJV)

(28) Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary?  There is no searching of his understanding.

(29) He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength.

(30) Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

(31) But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
